Why Authenticity Matters More Than Perfection

We seem to be surrounded by AI-generated images

It's becoming harder to scroll through social media without seeing them. Festival posters, retreat adverts, daily inspirational posts... they're everywhere. Most of them are beautifully made, and they're becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from real photographs.

I understand why people use them. AI has made visual content accessible to people who don't have graphic design skills or the budget to pay someone else to create it. That's a genuine benefit, and I don't think that's something we should dismiss.

But despite that, I find myself rejecting it.

Not because I'm anti-AI. I use AI most days. It helps me organise my thoughts, structure ideas and deal with the less creative parts of running a business. Used well, I think it's an incredibly useful tool.

Where I struggle is when AI starts replacing reality.

Beauty and trust aren't the same thing

If I saw two adverts for the same retreat, I'd probably notice the AI-generated one first. Beautiful things are scroll stopping, and AI images are designed to catch your eye.

But if I were deciding which retreat to book, I'd choose the one using real photographs without hesitation.

I want to know what the place actually looks like.

I want to know who'll be there.

I want to know that when I arrive, I'm stepping into the place I was shown, not an idealised version of it.

For me, that's where trust begins.

This isn't really about AI

The more I've thought about it, the more I've realised this isn't actually an article about artificial intelligence.

It's about authenticity.

Wisdom Wellness asks people to trust me. Whether that's coming on a pilgrimage, booking Reiki, or experiencing an Inner Dance session, I'm asking people to step into something unfamiliar and, sometimes, quite vulnerable.

I don't think I can ask someone to do that while presenting them with something that isn't real.

If I show you a photograph of Tintagel, it's because I've been there.

If I show you a stone circle, it's one I've stood beside.

If you see my treatment room, it's the room you'll actually walk into.

That matters to me.

Not because the real world is always prettier than something AI could create, but because it's honest.

I enjoy creating things

Perhaps that's another reason I haven't been tempted by AI-generated images.

I genuinely enjoy the creative process.

I like choosing the photographs. I like moving things around until the layout feels right. I like experimenting with fonts and deciding what deserves to stand out and what doesn't.

Sometimes it takes far longer than it should.

Sometimes I change my mind halfway through.

Sometimes I end up back where I started.

But that's part of making something - the finished design matters, but so does the process of getting there.

My promise

I can't speak for anyone else's business, and I don't want to. Everyone has different values, different skills, and different reasons for making the choices they do.

This is simply one of mine.

If you spend time here, I want you to know that what you're seeing is real.

The photographs are real.

The places are real.

The experiences are real.

Because that's what Wisdom Wellness is built on.

Healing isn't about becoming someone else.

It's about meeting yourself exactly where you are.

Not where you think you should be.

Not where you'd like to be.

Where you actually are.

If that's the philosophy that sits underneath everything I offer, then it should sit underneath the way I present my business too.

Authenticity will always matter more to me than perfection.
